Tarot Cards and Health

Tarot Cards and HealthWhen it comes to Tarot cards and health, it is important to remember what Tarot cards really are: stories on a card, and each story represents a particular energy or quality within or externally. Given that our emotional and physical wellbeing is intimately tied to the thoughts we think and the habitual emotions we feel on a daily basis, it makes sense that in order to improve our health that we pay attention to what we are thinking moment to moment and whether that thought has a positive or negative energy to it.

What are you focussing on?

We always have access to positive energy, yet we also always have access to negative energy due to the dual nature of the universe. At the end of the day it comes down to a choice as to which we will embrace in each moment. The problem is that most of our thoughts are operating from our subconscious mind from programs we downloaded from our environment from a very young age (usually between the ages of 0-7 years).

One way to quickly assess as to what programs you have going on in your subconscious mind is to look around at your life. Are you happy with what you see? Eg, do you like where you live? Do you feel happy in your friendships? Do you feel connected to something that is bigger than yourself? Are you in flow most of the time? Does money feel like a struggle, or does it come easily to you? What state is your love life in? These are all clues as to what your habitual thoughts are, and if you don’t like what you see, you need to change your thinking around these aspects. It is not about judging yourself, it is more about being aware of what you are thinking around these aspects.

How the Tarot can help.

This is where using the Tarot can come in handy, because Tarot cards can reflect back to us what is lurking in our subconscious mind By shuffling your deck of cards while enquiring as to what area of your life needs healing or what thoughts and emotions need attention, you can start to bring to light what aspects may be affecting your physical health and emotional health.

One way of helping our body heal as well as our mind is to imagine we are connecting to a bright light which is approximately 300 feet above you. Energy healers claim that approximately 300 feet above us is a portal of cosmic energy that helps us to feel at one with all that is.

An exercise to release negative patterns in your life.

Try this exercise for 7 days in a row and watch for shifts in your body and general emotions. Tip: suspend your disbelief about this stuff and just allow yourself to have a different experience, and keep a journal to jot down what comes up for you.

  1. Shuffle your Tarot deck while asking the universe what would be a useful thing to bring to the light today.
  2. Draw one card and take some time to pause and reflect on the meaning of the card and how it might apply to your life. If it is a card that feels very positive to you, ask yourself if this how you generally feel about the aspect you are thinking about? Often this question can suddenly bring to light all the things you feel are missing that if present would mean you really would feel the positive aspects of this card. If the card feels negative to you on the other hand, then that will be even easier to see where that relates to your life.
  3. Write down your insights that have come up for you in a journal. Allow yourself to feel the burden of what this exercise brought up for you, but don’t dwell here for too long.
  4. Next, simply do this two and a half minute  meditation and literally ‘give’ your negative feelings to the light, and imagine them just dissipating and releasing.

Law Of Attraction And Manifestation-Tuning The Body

cosmic energyIn order to begin receiving what we want out of life, it is important to consider whether we are feeling in good shape physically, mentally and emotionally.
If we are constantly tired, feeling stiff in our body and a little on the depressed side, it is very hard to start manifesting a better life for ourselves because the Universe responds to the main vibration we are giving out to the world.

Take for example musical tuning forks.

Lets say we strike a tuning fork which is tuned to the note ‘A’, and there are other tuning forks in the vicinity that are also tuned to the note ‘A’. An interesting thing occurs once you strike just one of these forks in that the other forks will automatically begin to ring as well because they are in tune with the vibrations that the fork which was stuck is tuned at.
Check out this 1 minute YouTube clip to demonstrate this basic principle in the world of mainstream physics.

Our body and our mind in connection to the Universe work much the same. Emotions resonate at a particular frequency, and if our dominant thought patterns are a little on the negative side and we are struggling with some health issues caused by simple neglect on our part, we will not be at our full manifesting power for making our dreams come true. The Universe is ‘listening’ to our dominant emotions and thought patterns, and will give us more of the same.
Here are 5 tips for getting into better shape on a mind and body level in order to give our hopes and dreams the best chance of occurring.

Mind Body ExercisesMeditation with a difference.

Maximise your meditation efforts by allowing the 21st century to help you. There is technology out there today that can cut your meditation time in half and make it more enjoyable. The technology is known asbinaural beats’. Sound has a powerful effect on our biological system. Brain and body chemistry can be altered by listening to carefully created mp3 tracks with headphones which has the sound technology embedded into the track. If you would like more information on this technology, click here  and receive some free downloads to try out for yourself.

Mind Body TuningExercise.

It goes without saying that exercise is something we all need to to do-especially in this modern world where we spend so much of our time sitting down in front of a screen. 30 minutes a day of focused exercise is all you need to be fit, or at the minimum, try and make sure you have moved enough throughout your day. It is easy to keep track of how many steps you are doing per day with one of the many fitness wrist bands out on the market such as the Apple Watch, the Fitbit or the Jawbone Up.

Green smoothie for mind body healthEat well.

If you are filling your body with junk food everyday, then the result is likely to be a series of junk thoughts and emotions. Our mind and body functions best we when receive adequate nutrition. One easy way to begin is change just one thing you are doing per day to get better nutrition. For example, you could begin with just having a green smoothie a day without changing anything else about your diet. In a short amount of time you will begin to feel the difference just by changing one thing and will help you be more motivated to change other things about your diet.

Adequate sleep mind body toolsAdequate sleep.

Lack of sleep is one of the top causes of lack of mental clarity and there could be many reasons why we may not be getting enough. Issues that range from having young children who wake you up throughout the night to sleep apnea to drinking too much caffeine throughout the day to heightened stress levels in general. The above suggestions will all help to alleviate some of the problems with lack of sleep by giving your body a chance to have deep sleep (even if it is only for 3-4 hours-which is better than 8 hours of crappy sleep.)

Tarot Routine and RitualCreate routine and ritual in your life.

Here is where the Tarot can really help. By starting your day with time to reflect on your spiritual life and writing in a journal. Drawing a Tarot card a day to help the right side of your brain offer suggestions for problems you may be experiencing to help release inner resistance to the things you most want to happen in your life. Writing takes the charge off emotions, and drawing on the inspiration of the Tarot allows an anchor point for your mind to focus on. For example, lets say you draw a so called ‘negative card; like the 3 of Swords. This is where good self questioning can come in handy. You might ask yourself ‘Who do I need to forgive in my life in order to clear some energy? What hurt am I still holding onto that no longer serves me?’

Tarot and Manifestation-Scripting your readings

Many people are interested in Tarot cards and the possibilities that the cards might hold for their life. They may own a deck of cards and sit down and pose a question to get insight or to find a sense of relief or clarity about a situation. There might be something in their life that they are trying to achieve or something that they want and they hope the cards will tell them that the ‘thing’ will happen. But more often than not-that is all they will do-read their Tarot spread and walk away without a plan of action. This becomes a form of entertainment in a way, without any real practical plans for making a desired change.

Your fate is in your hands.

I am not completely convinced that there is anything mystical about Tarot cards. I am more inclined to believe there is something mystical about our brains and how they work rather than any innate power in the cards. In terms of finding ‘magic’ in the cards-it is our own ability for creativity that brings purpose and meaning from the pictures on the cards. What is truly amazing in life is us- the human being and what we are capable of. The question is though, will we use our own power or give it away? And exactly how do we tap into our innate power and manifest what we want in life, and what do Tarot and manifestation have to do with each other?

Bringing it from your mind and into your body.

One way to use Tarot in a practical way is to be very specific about the questions you ask to it. Tarot cards are just stories on a card, and they tap into common psychological themes in humanity which is what makes them so relatable to many people.  There is also opportunity in each card to bring it into a positive light.

Consider the ‘Death’ card for instance. Many casual observers of Tarot would instantly think the Death card is negative and to be feared. But, that is misguided. Death is an opportunity for renewal and deep inner change. In the context of Tarot it is foolish to interpret the card as an actual physical death of someone and feel fear over it like many Hollywood movies would have you believe about the Tarot.

One way to bring the Tarot out of your mind and into your body in order to motivate you to take the actions needed to bring about something desired in your life is to take your Tarot card readings more seriously! What do I mean by that?

Well, given the creative opportunity of Tarot, look at the Tarot cards you have just laid down in front of you about a certain desired outcome you want, and put pen to paper. Begin writing down the story you see in front of you while relating it back to the question you posed. Using Tarot cards for manifestation works best when you have a goal in mind and are curious about the energy around the desired goal and what obstacles might stand in your way.

Writing the story.

Lets say you have a goal to get a business off the ground. You want to leave your job and start working for yourself, and lets say your business idea is to work from home online selling some arts and crafts you have made, which you love doing. You ask the cards ‘how can I make this possible?’

Next, you choose a spread to work with where certain positions of the cards will mean certain things. For example, card positions may be like the following:

Position 1: Blessings around the idea

Position 2:Challenges around the idea

Position 3:Advice for best outcome

After you shuffle the cards and lay them out, lets say the following cards turned up:

Position 1-Temperance

Position 2-7 of Cups

Position 3-8 of Pentacles.

Think about your own interpretations as well as traditional keywords.

As you look at your spread of 3 cards, think about the traditional keyword meanings and interpretations of each card. Also, keep in mind your initial intuitive hits as you look at the pictures on the cards and what they personally mean to you.

Temperance relates to balance, moderation, patience, finding the middle ground and being the calm in the eye of a storm. The 7 of Cups relates to the emotions and feeling overwhelmed with too many choices in life, as well as temptation and a and not being grounded in your ideas. The 8 of Pentacles relates to the steady progress of practicing your craft and learning new skills and working in diligent ways towards your goals.  As you begin to write, speak in a way you would as if you were doing a Tarot reading for someone else, rather than yourself. This helps you to see past any internal disbelief that you are not capable of achieving what you want.

So, for example, you could write:

‘This business idea brings great opportunities for you to experience balance in your life. You will be able to bring together all your creative skills and experience a tangible feeling of well being within. When things begin to get hectic in relation to all the time commitments you have in relation to getting this business off the ground, your sense of inner steadiness will pull you through and others around you will sense your grounded approach and respond in positive ways. Your ability to be calm in situations is a blessing to you, because others will be drawn to join forces with you and help you in your business.

There may be times when you feel overwhelmed with an abundance of what feels like too many choices (the 7 of cups), and you may have feelings of being scattered and unproductive. These are the times you need to call back your inner steadiness and find the options that give you the most balanced outcome. The 7 of Cups reminds you to ground your ideas in reality and focus on one thing at a time. You have the ability to do this because you have Temperance on your side-you find the place of equilibrium in order to achieve your desired outcome.

The 8 of Pentacles reminds you to spend your time and energy committing to excellence in learning what you need to know each day to make this business venture a success. It is a time of keeping your head down and chipping away with care towards achieving what it is you are after. You have the power to do this, as well as the skills and any knowledge you need to acquire you approach with grace and focus. The way to succeed with this idea is through diligence and focus. When approached in a balanced way combined with keeping you mind grounded, you will achieve the outcome you desire.’

Spend some time on your script. This is just an example of one interpretation of these three cards. The most important thing is that you speak in positive ways-as if you were motivating someone else and encouraging someone else. The language you use is important.

Once you have finished your script, record it into audio format.

Grab your smart phone, or laptop with any kind of audio recording application on it, and begin recording your script. Speak in an energetic way, as if you were giving a motivational speech to a good friend who came to you for advice on exactly what you are trying to do. Once you have recorded it, add a layer of music underneath it using applications such as Garage Band (available on Macs).

Choose music that has an emotional impact on you and matches with the feeling of the goal you want to achieve. I personally like choosing music that feels like it could be out of a movie as this adds a real layer of atmosphere to my script, and does not take away from the words in my script because I choose instrumental music as opposed to music that has someone singing in it.

The final task.

All that is left for you to do now is listen to it! And listen to it daily to get you in the best frame of mind for achieving the goal you want. Draw on your own inspirational story from the lessons and archetypes of the Tarot. Achieving anything in life starts in the mind and then it works its way into the body as we take the physical actions needed to achieve our goals. By listening to your Tarot script each day, you are opening up your right brain to tap into more resourcefulness to go and manifest what it is you most want.

Tarot And Personal Growth-How To See Your Patterns At A Glance

Tarot Journal

Tarot and personal growth are a perfect match for each other as both embrace psychology and emotional and spiritual habits. If you are curious about the Tarot cards in terms of trying to understand the greater patterns in your life, journaling and documenting your personal spreads each day is an essential tool to gaining a deeper understanding of some dominant unconscious energy patterns or thoughts going on for you.

Why Journal?

Tarot Journaling

Journaling for greater understanding of self is a tradition and recommended practice by various therapists that is as old as the hills. There are myriad ways to journal, but when it comes to journaling and Tarot cards it is important to document each card that comes up for you, preferably on a daily basis in order for you to collect the most data in the shortest amount of time.

My Experience.

At first when I began this practice I was actually skeptical that I would be picking up some cards more than other cards out of a Tarot deck made up of 78 cards. But that is exactly what has begun to occur. I am beginning to see certain underlying themes showing up on a regular basis that are completely relevant to my personal circumstances. I also came across a paper written by a scientist who has looked at this phenomenon in more detail. She and three others conducted a personal experiment over the course of a year where each documented their personal spreads daily, and then looked at the mathematical probabilities from a scientific point of view to determine what degree their spreads were random or not random. The results confirmed the case for non-randomness. You can read this study here.

Why is it useful to see the bigger patterns in your life?

We all have psychological patterns that we keep repeating over and over. Some of these are useful to us, and others are destructive. Certain belief systems claim we have certain life lessons to learn while we are in our physical form on the planet, and the Tarot is a useful tool to help you discover this. One way to see the patterns at a glance is to use the popular app ‘Evernote’, which can be used both on a desk top or laptop as well as a smart phone.

How to use ‘Evernote’ to get the big picture.

  1. Start by downloading Evernote on your smart phone. Evernote is a note taking application which allow you to enter notes, take photos, perform searches within the application within all the notes you have taken, make tags for entries and much more. But for the purpose of this journaling exercise, the above functions are all you need to know about.
  2. Do your first documented Tarot reading for yourself. I would suggest starting with only one to three cards per day to keep it simple, over a 3 month period. Pose your question before you shuffle your deck and type it into Evernote in the ‘title’ section. This will ensure you are clear about what you asked while you interpret your spread or card so you can keep referring back to the original question.
  3. Take a photo of your spread within the Evernote application and click ‘save’.
  4. Type in some notes about your interpretation. You can make these notes as elaborate or as short as you like depending on how much time you have in the moment.
  5. Make a ‘tag’ of each of the cards that you picked for the day. On a smart phone you tag a post by clicking on the ‘i’ button in the circle to the right (see below), and then type in the first card you drew. Then, do the same with the other cards you have drawn.

Here is the screen shot from the view on the laptop, which is a little more obvious as to how you would tag the post (click next to the ‘tag’ symbol on the left. As you can see I tagged this note with ‘8 of Pentacles’):

Screen Shot 2016-04-16 at 10.12.36 am

How to analyse the results.

After you have been documenting for at least a month, go to the ‘tags’ section within Evernote and see how many times you have tagged certain cards. Evernote keeps the count for you so if you have been vigilant with your tagging and documenting you should see a reasonably clear pattern emerging.

After even just 3 weeks of doing this exercise I noticed reoccurring cards showing up for me, and one was the Justice card as well as the Chariot card which are major arcana cards and carry a lot of energetic ‘weight’. I am currently sifting through what these cards are suggesting to me, and I figure that once I have either learned the lesson or cleared the energy or thought pattern around these cards, I will start consistently drawing different cards that reoccur for a while.

What are your experiences with Tarot journaling? Have you noticed a pattern emerging? What methods do you use to document your spreads? Leave a comment and let know!
