The free Tarot reading online this week focuses on contribution, connection and vitality. I drew three cards which represented these aspects of daily life to give ideas on what we can do to enhance these areas to feel more in balance as a whole.
I was influenced to do this three card spread based on these aspects after listing to award winning author Jonathan Fields talk on a podcast about his book ‘How to live a good life’. He defines ‘contribution, connection and vitality’ as 3 buckets we need to continually fill up regularly in order to feel like we are living a good life. I was quite taken by this idea and immediately saw how this could be turned into a daily or weekly Tarot spread.
Jonathan says your contribution bucket is fundamentally how you’re bringing yourself to the world. It is about how you express your gifts, your strengths and your values. Are you contributing in a way that’s leveraging the fullness of who you are, and is deeply meaningful and making a difference?
Your connection bucket is all about your relationships-whether that be your relationship with an intimate partner or friends and family, or perhaps just your relationship with God, or Source or whatever you define as something where you feel connected.
The vitality bucket is about optimizing your state of mind and body. Research suggests that the mind and body are not separate so this bucket is about how ‘full’ we feel in relation to vitality and general energy and enthusiasm for life on a physical and mental plane.
The weekly reading:
This card is all about having an effect in the world, being practical, being prosperous as well as being trusting and trustworthy. When it comes to how you are contributing to the world it suggests that the dreams and plans you have for your life will work out the best when there is a bigger picture in mind in terms of how it will positively affect others as well as yourself. How do your dreams and plans impact the world around you? Is it about more than just you? How will others benefit by you achieving success in a certain area? When we are contributing in some way whether that be in a big or small way we go beyond ourselves and as a result more easily achieve what it is that we want. We are motivated for more than just ourselves. Being clear on how we want to affect others in positive ways helps to guide the daily actions we take. Given that this card came up reversed for this week it suggests that perhaps you need to take some time to think bigger and lay down some solid plans as to how you can shine your light further into your world/community/workplace/family. What impact do you want to have this week where do you need to spend some time planning and using your unique talents and skills to contribute in meaningful ways?
It seems that out of the three cards that have shown up this week the bucket that needs the most filling is the connection card. This is the third time within a week that a swords card like this has shown up and I feel it is representative of the fact that many people feel disconnected from their source and from their flow in life. They feel they are in crisis or defeat in some way and have a sense of loss and depression and are unsure how to experience being re-connected to the things that give them a real spring. We are more disconnected from others and often ourselves than ever before despite our amazing technology allowing for more connections. This technology can be the thing that stops us from being present to what is around us and the blessings that are around us. It can also result in us feeling like we are missing out on something as we scroll through our social media feeds with endless photos of others having a good time somewhere in the world when we might be stuck at work wishing we were elsewhere. I read the other day that depression is related to excessive thinking about the past, and anxiety is related to excessive thinking about the future. So, if we are able to bring our focus back to the present moment and live life more in ‘the slow lane’ we will feel more calm and centered within. Take time to feel your energy
, be in your body, breath and focus on solutions, not problems. Turn off your social media for a while as well as the TV and all news and seek out what makes you feel connected to yourself first, as this will enable you to feel more connected to others in a real way. What is one small practical way you can improve your connection to yourself this week?
Page of Swords
What will make your body and mind feel agile and allow for a sense of curiosity? The Page of Swords is quick to act and restless at heart. He asks whether you are being truthful with yourself about what things help your vitality. It may be time to face the facts about what is working in terms of your physical and mental health and what is not working. What activities help you feel more vital and which ones drain your energy? Are there areas you need take some swift action in order to make this bucket a little more full this week? How can the energy of this card help with increasing your own personal energy? Do you need to sit down and make a list of what aspects of your life you are currently engaged in that are great for your health and wellbeing? The Page of Swords challenges us to use our mental energy and fortitude to make swift changes where needed.
